CRTC awards Smithers Community Radio broadcasting license

Whoo hoo! We did it!

Dated June, 18th, the CRTC awarded the Smithers Community Radio Society with a Developmental Radio Broadcasting License. The ball is officially in our court.
With little hesitation, the board met for our Annual General Meeting on June 30th to discuss the next steps. The minutes are included in the section "latest news", but the short and sweet is that we have created 3 tasks forces to prepare for our launch:

Abdel Naroth (currently our Program Director) is leading a crew that is geting equipment and studio ready for broadcasting.

News update - May 09

Well, that was a bit anticlimactic. The CRTC hearing, where our CRTC radio application was to be brought forward on March 30th, turned out to be just the start of the processing phase.

After talking to Michael Craig of the CRTC, I now understand that it could still be another month or so before we know if our application is approved. Sigh.

What you can do..

We are getting close. With the possibility of getting our radio license approved after the March 30th CRTC hearing, we want to be able to flip the switch and start broadcasting.

There is still lots to do, including finalizing our programming schedule, building our studio (kindly donated by One Sky Smithers), outfitting the space with radio gear, training our radio programming volunteers, and finally raising the funding to do all of this.

Seems like a lot, but not with your help.

What can you do?
