What is addiction?  Is addiction a choice?

Beth Richardson and Cynthia Rondeau of  Mental Health and Addiction Services in Smithers talk about why people use, what withdrawal is like, when does alcohol/drug use become a problem.  Beth quoted a Japanese saying describing the insidious power of addiction:  "The man takes a drink, the drink takes a drink, the drink takes the man".

Beth and Cynthia will be back in a couple of weeks with Part Two  and will discuss how family members, friends and employers can help a person who is struggling with addiction...they'll talk about boundaries, validation, education and community resources.
