Today is National Aboriginal Day. Moricetown is hosting a spectacular celebration called the Potlatch Jam from 11 AM to 5 PM at the Recreation Park. Come celebrate with us: tradtional games and contests, lots of great food and of course, music from many talented artists. I spoke with Wanda Nikal and got some background on the name Potlatch Jam, and some details on the events planned for the day.
But first, I have a special treat for you: the award-winning Yukon-based Dakhká Khwáan Dancers visited us on Monday. They danced and sang at a special performance for our very young students, and then after lunch did a full regalia performance for our village. It was pretty breath-taking; one of the dancers agreed to speak with me afterward.
