Program:

Every year, I pick a food item that I want to learn more about. And because I’ve had so many interesting opportunities presented to me, this year is the Year of the Mushroom.

One reason I’ve never experimented with mushrooms is that rumours surrounding wild mushrooms abound. So, when Smithereens Mushroom sprouted up at the Bulkley Valley Farmers’ Market this spring, I jumped at the chance to learn more! My guest in this episode, Marie-Eve Arseneault, is going to tell us all about her new business, Smithereens Mushroom, with lots of delicious recommendations for edible and medicinal mushrooms. oh, my taste buds can’t wait!

At one point, Marie-Eve discusses the advantages of composting mushroom matter. Here is the image she promised to send me:

Never experiment with a mushroom that you cannot positively identify, that is over-ripe, damaged, or collected from contaminated areas. As my son, a chef and prodigious forager will tell you, you can eat any mushroom, but some only once.
