Worms: The Original Alchemists!
If you’ve been to your local dump recently, you’ll know we have a waste management problem. We’ve tried to reduce our attachment to plastics, and to reuse containers. We recycle. And still, there’s too much garbage. The average Canadian produces a tonne of waste each year; an estimated 1/2 - 1/3 of household waste is organic matter. But there’s an easy fix. Vermicomposting is a great way to reduce the amount of waste we throw away. Worms play a big role in waste management, soil production and food security, all important topics these days.
Health and Wellness Advocate Cathy Nesbitt is an award-winning environmental innovator. And I met her over a squirm of worms.
