On the train from Kingston to Ottawa seems like as good a place as any to make a final entry about attending the 2012 National Campus/Community Radio Conference. Last night, someone asked me what I liked best about the week and I had to give it a lot of thought before answering. There were really cool workshops, interesting discussions around regulatory rulings, copyright collectives and tariffs, and how best to approach censorship, advertising, sponsorship, etc. But I think what was most inspiring was simply the sense of community.

Okay, circuit bending the other day was freakin' awesome. Montreal musician, Lisa Gamble (http://gambletron.ca/) hosted. Basically we were given kids toys that make sound (battery operated) and taught how to open them up and mess with their circuit boards in sonically interesting ways. Watch out, Smithers. I'll be heading to New to You with a sautering iron in hand... That night, she performed at a local art collective, using an old circuit bent Calico (sp?) to make sounds.

Halfway through the second day of this conference, I am slightly overwhelmed, but very happy. It is an amazing gathering of like-minded folks from across the country, who are rallying together to create something super cool. There's a ton of information being shared and discussed.
