Program:

Prince Rupert food security was front and centre at this week’s council meeting after School District 52 and Ecotrust Canada presented to Prince Rupert council about their joint school garden program.

The initiative aims to build greenhouses and permanent garden beds at all elementary schools in Prince Rupert and to develop more neighbourhood gardens in pursuit of strengthening Rupert’s locally grown food supply.

Following their delegation to council,  I caught up with EcoTrust’s Dianne Villesèche and School District 52’s food coordinator Nadia Halward about where the program goes next.
