Program:

Today on the Scrum, 70 years after the development of the Kenny Dam and subsequent Nechako Reservoir to feed hydro electric power to the Rio Tinto Alcan aluminum smelter in Kitimat, which displaced hundreds in the process, the Cheslatta Nation is hard at work trying to rehabilitate more than 400 square kilometers of their land that was devastated when flood waters rose in the spring of 1952. The Tyee’s northern BC reporter, Amanda Follett Hosgood has been digging into the legacy of that fateful day through an investigative series of articles, of which part three was published today. I spoke with Follett Hosgood about her reporting and how the Cheslatte Nation is reclaiming their land.
