As the BC Conservative celebrate a stunning win over the NDP, capturing 63 seats in the Legislature to the NDP’s 28, and the Greens maintaining 2 seats, the province will now have its first Conservative majority since 1928.

One of the only NDP holdouts was in the riding of North Coast-Haida Gwaii. Former environment minister, Tamara Davidson, held her seat by a fair margin, but now faces the difficult task of moving from government to opposition.

Elsewhere in Northwest, B.C., Conservative MLA Claire Rattee, Skeena, as well as Sharon Hartwell, Bulkley Valley-Stikine, who only won by 461 votes, both held their seats and are moving across the floor in the legislature to take their seats in government.

Although ministerial appoints haven’t been announced yet, it’s likely a northern MLA will land in cabinet in the coming weeks.

We’ve reached out to all Northwest, B.C. MLAs for their thoughts on the election and today we hear from MLA-elect Tamara Davidson as to what made the difference in her riding and how she will shift into her role as part of the official opposition.
