Selective fishing operations is making a huge comeback in Northwest, B.C. And now First Nations like Kitselas, the Nisga’a, Wet’suwet’en and Lax Kw’alaams and Gitanyow have all developed selective fishing operations to provide their communities with food fish and potentially economic oportunity. It gives these nations hope for the future and a way to pass on the knowledge from the elder fishermen to the youth.

Today I speak with Fred McKenzie who runs the Kitselas fish wheel just outside Terrace and Gregory Rush, chief Gwilits from Gitanyow at his fish camp in the heart of Gitanyow Nation.
