The Smithers Library announced last week they are getting a new home, after nearly 20 years in the making.When the Town of Smithers lost two bids to fund a new $15 million Library-Art Gallery project a couple years ago, many thought it would take another decade to see the dream of a new library realized. However, after the Town acquired of the current Heartstrings building, modern and spacious at 10,000 sqft, more than twice the size of the existing library, the community is elated. Something the Library Board has been fundraising for more than 20 years. Wendy Wright is the Library Director for the Smithers Public Library and feels a sense of relief now that a future home for the library has been secured.
