This weekend Smithers will light up for its first major Roller derby match between the Bulkley Valley Bruisers and the Rated PG Thrashers at the Smithers Civic Centre on may 27th at 7pm.

Roller derby was once considered a fringe sport, but as I discovered at one of the BV Bruisers’ practices and Davidson hall, it's not only mainstream these days but growing across the Northern BC. Several communities have establish teams and now regional leagues and the Bruisers are right int he thick of it.

Here is my conversation with several of the BV Bruisers as they were preparing for their upcoming season.
