We’re down here in Prince Rupert this week for the 66th All Native Basketball Tournament. The annual event draws hundreds of players from across the province and beyond as they face off in one of the longest running community basketball tournaments in Canada. This year Metlakatla Alaska opened the games with their fourth-generation drummers and dancers as the packed crowd erupted. As the games kicked off early indications that the Skidegate men’s and women’s teams have a strong showing this year that might lead them to victory. In a nail bitter contest, Lax Kw’alaams intermediate women lost a tough game to the Skidegate Saints, after leading the game for the first two quarters of play But in the end Skidegate came out on top 41-38.
