Prince Rupert is experiencing one of the largest improvement projects in the city’s history, with dozens of kilometres of water pipes being replaced as well as several housing projects underway, not to mention the major industrial projects filling up Ridley Island.

But despite the long-awaited improvements, what pressure does this rapid transformation put on the city and its aging infrastructure?

Today we speak with Mayor Herb Pond about where things are at three years into a massive infrastructure improvement project, what he’s hearing from residents as we enter another tourist season, which will see one of the largest volumes of tourists ever, and where the city is planning on siting a new fire hall, which is also being asked to support industry operations if needed.
