After years of growing concerns about increased crime rates in Northwestern B.C., including Smithers, 2025 marked the first year that crime rate in the small community of 5,000 dropped.

The local RCMP detachment reported that 2025 was the first year in decades to see less than 5,000 calls for service, a trend local officials are hoping to continue.
