Over the past few months, as operations commence at the LNG Canada facility in Kitimat, a flare stack has been burning non-stop. This is all part of safe operation start up but for many in the community the flaring is concerning.

At times the flame has been 100 feet in the air, roaring, according to residents, like a jet engine, and emitting black smoke at times. No one is exactly sure what is coming out of that smoke, but research may soon be underway to determine the impact to local residents’ health.
