Hello community radio fans.
Well, that was a bit anticlimactic. The CRTC hearing, where our CRTC radio application was to be brought forward on March 30th, turned out to be just the start of the processing phase.
After talking to Michael Craig of the CRTC, I now understand that it could still be another month or so before we know if our application is approved. Sigh.
In the meantime, Garath Reid and myself (Glen Ingram) put together a Community Radio 101 workshop and tested it on a few willing and wonderful guinea pigs (thanks Facunda, Sheila, Emilly, Dave, Ben, and Sue!). We will start offering this workshop on a regular basis throughout the year to help introduce Smithereens to the world of community radio.
Upcoming dates will be posted on this website.
Dave Stevens and James Emerton have been busy with the setup of our Studio software, Campcaster. We hope to be able to introduce this nifty application to those who attend the workshop mentioned above. Thanks Dave and James.
Funding:
With the majority of our radio gear un-purchased, funding continues to be a priority. Thanks to sponsorship from the Driftwood Foundation, we are a little closer to having what we need to start building our studio.
Next steps:
We need to start training broadcasters and building out our programming calendar, so if you have a show idea, now is the time to bring it forward. If you unsure of what the commitments are and if broadcasting is your bag, then attend our next Comm. Radio 101 workshop. To get a list of workshop dates, send a request to info@smithersradio.com.
That's it for now. If you have any questions, use our feedback form at http://smithersradio.com/feedback.
Thanks for your support.
