Join the RPM Challenge, we DARE ya!

Consider taking us up on a little Dare!

It's the first time that CICK has decided to bring this International Challenge to our region!
We know that folks are hungry for activities, and this is a great way to focus your creative energy and get wild with that new instrument you got, or write that heavy metal album you've been wanting to make etc!

Lots more details below but the general gist of it is as follows:

  • Record any kind of music in February, just because you can!
  • The RPM Challenge is an international annual creative challenge to anyone to record new music in the month of February. Any genre, any level of experience, anywhere. You set your own length goal, and we give you a deadline of March 1 to finish.
  • Write some tunes, record it, create the art, burn the disk, drop it off with us March 1st, or mail it in!
  • The CICK Lounge Car may be available for you to do the recording! (email cickmeghan@gmail.com)
  • CICK 93.9fm Smithers Community Radio will play the first song from each album (at least) on the airwaves sometime in the month of March!
What is the RPM Challenge?

The RPM is an annual creative challenge to anyone to record original music during the month of February. You set your own length goal, and we give you a deadline of March 1 to complete it by. Tens of thousands of albums and close to a hundred thousand tracks have been made as part of the Challenge since it was founded in 2006, with submissions coming from every single continent on Earth (including Antarctica!)

It is a non-competitive challenge, meant to inspire creative courage and to encourage everyone — musicians and non-musicians alike — to explore their own creativity. It’s fun, it’s hard, it’s rewarding, and it’s free to take part. We dare you!

What are the RPM Challenge 2021 rules?

Since the RPM is a creative challenge, not a contest, the rules are pretty simple:

• All recordings must be original and unreleased.

• For the first time this year you can pick your own length goal.

• Your record must be produced in the month of February.

• Your work must be submitted or postmarked by the deadline on March 1.
Some other details:
• Everyone is welcome!
• It's not essential to write the music in the same month, but many people do.
• The RPM is a DIY community event where your expectations are set by you.
• It doesn't have to be good, it just has to be done.
• Have fun!
