Bill Goodacre |
Interview - Councillor Bill Goodacre talks about his family history, Smithers, and the need for Reconciliation.
"Smithers still has that small town atmosphere to it even though I can walk down Main Street and not recognize half the people I see - which never happened when I was growing up. But the people you do meet, even the strangers, are all friendly people. And that's something that hasn't changed in this community: it's still a very friendly place." - @39:30
Endnotes
A 1965 speech by Tommy Douglas at St. Joseph's was one of Bill's entry points into politics. That Tommy Douglas - the first leader of the New Democratic Party and the champion of universal healthcare in Canada - inspired him is not surprising. Douglas had a gift for oratory as heard in this 1961 clip from one of his speeches.
