The Polaris Prize winning album for 2013 by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, entitled Alleluja! Don't Bend, Ascend. The concept through the album, as I interpreted it, questions what human nature consists of. Are we inherently good or evil? It looks at our tragic and joyous history, and the present, and tries to understand how we might navigate our future.
Heavier moments contrast with ambient drone; sinister with uplifting. Two 20 min songs of epicness interspersed with two ambient tracks. All around, amazing!
