This is a different sort of show on energy. Today I did an interview with Nathan Cullen, MP for Bulkley Valley-Skeena. He as brought forward a private member' bill C628 which would (1) prohibit oil tanker traffic on the west coast, (2) create a change in licencing pipelines (3) allow greater consultation with all parties involved.
This is a non-partisan discussion as the issue crosses all political party boundaries. He also has done a series of meetings (and more to go) all around the province to see what people want.
Everyone who knows the BC coast wants it protected from raw bitumen spills which apparently can't be cleaned up because it sinks. The port they would go from, Kitimat, is at the end of the Douglas Channel, and then the coastal waters with high winds, big waves, tight turns necessary in a tanker that takes three kilometers to turn. Not a pretty picture.
Avaaz, Leadnow and the Dogwood Initiative all have petitions you can sign to have a say. Please do. This about how we want our future to go.
Recently Nathan Cullen was voted by the other 307 MP's as being the most knowledgeable. Who was voted the runnerup? Stephen Harper. Doesn't that say it all about this sensitive issue?
