Hi Community Radio lovers. I have some recent developments I would like to share with you related to our work in getting a Community Radio Station here in Smithers.
CRTC update:
Whoo hoo! We did it!
Dated June, 18th, the CRTC awarded the Smithers Community Radio Society with a Developmental Radio Broadcasting License. We are "CICK, 93.9 - Your Voice in the Valley"
Exciting, isn't it!
Annual General Meeting held June 30:
The minutes are at the website (www.smithersradio.com), but the short and sweet is that we have created 3 tasks forces to prepare for our launch:
Abdel Naroth (currently our Program Director) is leading a crew that is getting equipment and studio ready for broadcasting.
Glen Ingram and Gareth Reid are getting intro. training sessions ready to help transition volunteers into trained broadcasters.
Taylor Bachrach and Facundo Gastiazoro are heading a team that will be focussed on communicating to citizens who we are and what we are doing. Look for some exciting events like a float at the Fall Fair Parade and booth at the Fair Grounds and possibly a "coming out" party or two.
If you want to be involved in getting us on air quickly, contact one of the organizers listed:
Taylor Bachrach - 847-9293
Abdel Naroth - 847-5633
Glen Ingram - 847-9455
We also welcomed 3 new board members to our committed crew of radio adventurers:
Gareth Reid, Facundo Gastiazoro, and Lorraine Doiron
Big hugs if you see them on the street.
Programming Ideas:
Remember, there is an online form for you to fill that goes to our programming director who will schedule your program idea.
Thanks for support your local community radio station, 93.9 CICK.
