A quick news update for those of you who are community radio curious:
We have acquired 70% of the equipment we need to start broadcasting, including our new Nicom radio transmitter, a mixer board, a Sure mic and stand and of course our antennae, tower and related cables/connectors.
If you have sound equipment that you could lend or sell, let us know at info@smithersradio.com.
Hi Community Radio lovers. I have some recent developments I would like to share with you related to our work in getting a Community Radio Station here in Smithers.
CRTC update:
Whoo hoo! We did it!
Dated June, 18th, the CRTC awarded the Smithers Community Radio Society with a Developmental Radio Broadcasting License. We are "CICK, 93.9 - Your Voice in the Valley"
Exciting, isn't it!
Well, that was a bit anticlimactic. The CRTC hearing, where our CRTC radio application was to be brought forward on March 30th, turned out to be just the start of the processing phase.
After talking to Michael Craig of the CRTC, I now understand that it could still be another month or so before we know if our application is approved. Sigh.
