Well once again, good ole' exercise turns out to be one of the best things for us. In a mega study over thirty years, Cardiff University in the UK found that exercise helped reduce dementia by 60 %. The university did a study of 2235 men aged 45-69. They were carefully examined every 5 years for cognitive decline, heart disease, cancer or early death. If they did 4 out of the 5 following activities, they reduced their risk of dementia by 60%. The five activities were: walking two miles a day or biking ten miles, healthy diet with 3 to 4 servings of fruit and vegetables daily, they kept normal weight, low alcohol intake and no smoking. Other studies repeated the same results. As Dr. Doidge said, if a pill was found to reduce dementia by 60%, think how excited the whole medical system would be about that, and how much hoopla would be everywhere on tv and magazines, not to mention the price tag that would be put on it. Isn't it nice to know that we can have that for free with a little bit of effort on our own part?
