The Joy of Bob Ross
Known for his fast and easy "wet-on-wet" painting technique, and remembered for his calm voice speaking of "Happy trees" and fuzzy Afro, Bob Ross reached millions of art lovers in the 1980s and early 1990s on his popular PBS television program The Joy of Painting.
With a calm voice and positive attitude Bob Ross produced complete paintings in less time then it takes to order a pizza (26 minutes). The "serious" art establishment might not have had much time for Bob Ross—and the contempt was mutual—but even now, almost two decades after his death, Ross' iconic show The Joy of Painting still enjoys a large following in syndication.
Today on Art Beat I revisit TV art incon Bob Ross and special guest, artist and art teacher, Perry Rath joins me to discuss how we learn art. Perry will lead us in a rare live on radio art lesson.
